2024 Corporate Environmental Achievement Award - Presented by The American Ceramic Society
On October 7, an award ceremony hosted by The American Ceramic Society, a globally recognized academic organization, was held at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh, USA. At this event, our silicon nitride substrates for power semiconductors received the 2024 Corporate Environmental Achievement Award.
At JFC, we remain committed to addressing social challenges by developing and applying a wide range of materials and technologies centered on ceramics, with the mission of creating a more sustainable and better world.
This award is presented to companies that have successfully developed and implemented new processes or products and have made notable contributions to the global environment.
The silicon nitride substrates recognized by this award are manufactured using a distinctive process known as Sintered Reaction Bonded Technology, which differs from conventional production methods. In this process, molded metallic silicon--used as the starting material--is treated in a nitrogen atmosphere to generate silicon nitride, which is then directly sintered.
Building upon the technology owned by the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Chubu Center, our company adapted it for thin ceramic substrates and successfully developed mass-production technology. These substrates are increasingly being adopted as high-thermal conductivity insulating substrates essential for mounting power semiconductors used in vehicle electrification. Their contribution to the realization of a global low‑carbon society was a key factor in receiving this award.
